Rest, Restoration & Hope

Lighthouse Family Retreat’s mission is to strengthen families living through childhood cancer by offering restorative retreats and helpful resources. One way Lighthouse strengthens families is through weeklong Seaside Retreats, Regional One-Day Retreats, and Weekend Retreats. All retreats are designed with families in mind. The goal is for families to leave retreat feeling restored and with memories that will last a lifetime.

This past summer season was incredible as over 200 families attended a week-long seaside Retreat. This fall we have regional One Day Retreats and Weekend Retreats in different states. We also have a Sunrise Retreat for grieving families in Bald Head, NC. To learn more about our restorative retreats or to apply to attend or serve, follow this link.

In today’s Perspectives blog post, you will hear from two different families. Each family shares a snapshot of what their experience was this past summer.

Family #1

Lighthouse Family Retreat was truly a time of rest, restoration, and hope! Thank you to all the donors who graciously give so that families like ours can attend with minimal concern about finances.

Thank you to all the hard-working Lighthouse leaders for their commitment and dedication to ensuring a smooth and seamless progression of events, activities, and meetings. Thank you to the staff of Epworth for the wonderful accommodations and delicious food! Most of all I have a special thank you and appreciation to our Family Partners. They were super supportive and amazing with their understanding, selflessness, and overall service!

I am also appreciative of the opportunity to connect with other families who are sharing a common experience. Finally, I love the fact that it was an opportunity to reconnect with my children with hopes of strengthening our love and overall relationships as the building blocks of healthy relationships as we move forward through this life. I will always remember this experience for all the moving parts involved. Thank you so very much and hopefully, Lighthouse will have us back next year and for years to come.

Family #2

First off, I would like to say, “thank you!” This is more than just a vacation for us. It is an experience and lifelong memories that we will cherish forever. With a family of 7, and a cancer diagnosis, I often feel like I have the weight of the world on my shoulders. I always have to be strong; this week has allowed me to breathe, just a little. Not worrying about what to cook or doing laundry and just being able to watch my kids truly enjoy themselves and the waves is an indescribable feeling. My heart and soul are overflowing with gratitude!

Again, I cannot thank you enough. May blessings flow to and through you. I don’t know you, but I love you.
