QUESTIONS ABOUT APPLYING FOR RETREAT?

WHAT’S THE BEST PRACTICE FOR APPLYING?

  • We recommend 1 adult from your family register every person in your family group.

  • Provide an accurate email address for every adult you are registering for retreat. This is how we will communicate with you and is required to complete certain pre-retreat requirements.

  • Expect the process to take 10 minutes.

WHEN AND HOW WILL I HEAR BACK REGARDING MY APPLICATION STATUS?

  • You will receive an email letting you know the status of your application

WHAT ARE THE FUNDRAISING MINIMUMS AND OTHER COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH RETREAT?

MINIMUMS

These are the fundraising minimums to attend retreat once your application is approved.

  • Weeklong: $1,500 per adult 18 and older $500 per child

  • Weekend: $700 per adult 18 and older $275 per child

FUNDRAISING GOALS

  • A non-refundable $250 is required for each family unit. This amount will go towards your overall fundraising goal and secures your spot on retreat.

  • On average, the minimums raised leave a $20,000 gap in the cost of each weeklong retreat. We know everyone’s fundraising capacity is different. Therefore, if you are able, we invite you to help us bridge this gap by setting a goal above your minimum. This helps make it possible for us to continue serving all families living through childhood cancer on retreat at no cost to them. (Suggested amount - $500 - $1,000 or more above your minimum to help us bridge the gap).

  • On average, the minimums raised for our weekend retreats leave a $10,000 gap.

BACKGROUND CHECKS AND OTHER ASSOCIATED COSTS

  • If you are accepted for retreat you will receive a background check which is required for each person 18 and older. Background checks cost $25 at the time of submission and your acceptance is contingent upon your background check being completed.

  • On a weeklong retreat you are responsible for two meals while on retreat.

  • All travel to and from retreat (including airfare if needed) is the responsibility of each volunteer.

HOW DO I LOG BACK INTO GO METHOD?

HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO SERVE BY MYSELF?

  • Adults 18 years or older can attend a retreat by themselves. Exceptions are made for student groups, which require a 3:1 student to adult (over 21 years of age) ratio.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT IF I APPLIED FOR A WAITLIST?

  • If you applied for a retreat that is on a waitlist you will receive an email indicating we’ve received your application and that you are on the waitlist.

  • If you move off of the waitlist and onto retreat you will be notified via email letting you know. There is no guaranteed timeline on this as it depends on various factors.

  • If you are on a waitlist for a retreat and you are wanting to apply to your second choice retreat that is still open we would ask that you choose one or the other. This allows our team to properly plan and allows space for other volunteers to serve as well. If you are interested in joining us on two retreats, by all means please apply to both, please keep in mind you will need to fundraise the minimums for all retreats you attend.

WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE TO SERVE WITH LIGHTHOUSE FAMILY RETREAT?

  • This service trip will be a memory-maker and a transformational experience for the parents and children you serve, as well as for you and your own family. Each retreat will be full of extravagant service … serving meals, leading fun children’s activities, setting up for theme nights, and creating environments where cancer families can get away to rest, restore relationships, experience joy, and find hope in God! Volunteers will be paired with a family living through childhood cancer to help serve them throughout the week with things like preparing and decorating retreat family housing, doing their laundry and dishes, playing games, and most of all, strengthening relationships that will last a lifetime.  Volunteers play a critical role in creating a retreat experience that provides joy and hope while strengthening families.
