Top 5 Fundraising Ideas
MARCH 30, 2017
Fundraising season is here as Family Partners are busy raising support for Retreat Families to attend a retreat. Here are the some of the best fundraising ideas we’ve encountered family partners doing to raise support for a family living through childhood cancer:
- Countdown the Days
Only 50 days left until your trip? Have your supporters countdown with you! Have them claim a number 1-50, and whichever number they pick, that’s the amount they commit to donate. Hannah King used this method to help raise support to serve on Summer Staff!
- Throw an UNBirthday Party
One of the best events at Lighthouse is the Unbirthday Party, so why not throw your own? Invite all your friends, hang some streamers, and don’t forget about the ice cream bar. Instead of gifts, ask your guests to bring a donation!
- Five for Five Challenge
This is a great social media campaign. Ask your supporters to give up their coffee shop latte and donate $5, then get 5 of their friends to donate $5, and so on and so forth. Not only does this increase your fundraising, but it also increases awareness outside of your network!
Participate in your favorite exercise/adventure and have your supporters donate per mile you walk/run/bike/hike, pound you carry, burpees/pull-ups/sit-ups you perform, etc. Brad Jones participated in a GoRuck challenge and had people donate a certain amount per pound he carried on his back during the challenge! Another twist on this idea is a serve-a-thon, where you collect donations from supporters per item of trash you pick up in your community on a certain day.
- Matching Donation
Find someone who will provide a matching donation if you raise a certain amount within a specified amount of time. For example, a supporter has offered to match, up to $1,000, donations given to you in the next 24 hours. That gives you a great opportunity to provide a sense of urgency to your other supporters, and allows their donation to double!
