The Wave

SUMMER 2022 RECAP
IMG_4945.jpg

Together
We
Lighthouse

At Lighthouse, our dream is to strengthen EVERY family living through childhood cancer. Every single one… over 50,000 families. Each summer for the past 21 years, we’ve seen God continue to bring new families into our Lighthouse community, and this summer was no exception. In fact, this summer was pivotal for our Lighthouse family.

This Retreat season, we added another Retreat location to our list of seaside spots (hello, St. Simons Island!), we added new team members to our full-time team and we welcomed a new wave of summer interns into our family. Not to mention, new Family Partners and Retreat Families joined us in the sand for the very first time.

While these areas of growth are pivotal to reaching our goal, we know we have to look beyond summer because cancer is not a seasonal disease. This is why we are once again extending our impact to locations across the country through two One-Day and two Weekend Retreats in Colorado, Texas, North Carolina and Virginia.

Ultimately, we can’t celebrate this exceptional summer and continued growth without thanking YOU! Your support means the world to us and to the families we get to serve. Without your dedication to our mission, we would not be where we are today.

While 50,000 is a monumental goal, we believe that, with your help, we can

achieve this. Thank you for locking arms with us this summer and for your ongoing support. Six claps and a YES because we appreciate you more than you know!

- CHRIS WOODRUFF, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR | CEO

Meet the Tabush Family

As a first time Retreat Family, the Tabush family couldn’t have imagined the impact that would come from the weeklong Retreat. The family of four stepped out of their comfort zones in new ways through Flip Flop and Common Ground. In turn, they found a community of people that not only understood the journey they were walking through, but wanted to link arms with to support them as they continue to find hope and rest.

“Others say (and we believe) that the heart of Lighthouse Family Retreat is Common Ground. However, I don’t think it would have had the same impact without all of the other impactful moments and people.

Being on vacation, not having to worry about planning anything, and of course, the Family Partner volunteers are all crucial. When we think about it, they are the heart of Lighthouse – always full of energy, carrying big smiles, ready to have fun and serve. We have never been in a place with so many wholehearted people. The connection, the love, the empathy, the joy, and the hope that we experienced this week cannot be found anywhere else.

Lighthouse was not only helpful to heal and experience joy, but it also gave us hope and tools for upcoming challenges.
