The Werstein Family
“Bresy was diagnosed with ALL leukemia right after her third birthday. She rang the bell for her last Chemo treatment last October. My favorite thing about the retreat was meeting other families who were or had gone through similar situations. They felt the same way, thought the same thoughts, they became our family. They never judged, they listened and cared. I made friends I will keep in touch with forever. Felt welcomed and like I had known them forever. Lighthouse is a place where arms are wrapped around you as
soon as you get there. I have so much to say, and don’t know how to say it all. We all come from different backgrounds and experiences but there we were all the same, one family. And to just think that everyone was there for our families, voluntarily, their own precious time and money. That is a big sacrifice and big hearts! And as for the two families that took care of us, they were amazing. Made us feel loved and special, especially our kids. Our kids became their kids. The kids loved spending time with all of the other kids and new experiences. They felt normal, and did not even think about why we were there. They laughed and smiled every day, even my 16 year old. We have kept in touch with all of them. My heart was full when we left. And always will be from this experience.” - Laura Werstein
