With You, We Can Inspire Others

“We found out about the Lighthouse Family Retreat and signed up for a Spring Break trip.  We were family partners that year for a sweet family of 4 that had a 4 year old boy with leukemia.  While we definitely worked hard, my husband and I were blown away watching our kids as they served the family.  I was so thankful for an environment where my kids served others, thought about themselves last, and had a blast doing it!   I can still remember watching my normally impatient daughter fill a little boy’s water gun time and time and time again with a smile on her face.  It was a blessing for us all!  We finished the trip with weary bodies and full hearts!  Our kids were anxious to go back the next year.  But the best part for us as parents…our kids learned that serving the Lord could be fun!  Something I always wanted for them!  We served 3 more years – primarily at the urging (actually begging) of our children!
Fast forward a few years and our youngest finally hit 10 so we decided to take the kids on a mission trip to Swaziland, Africa with Heart for Africa.  It was a trip of a lifetime.  Serving the orphaned children we met there opened our hearts in a new way!  Watching our kids respond and serve and stretch themselves was priceless.  That was 2 summers ago and we are now moving to Swaziland to serve permanently with Heart for Africa.  Our children (now aged 11, 15, and 17) are so excited about the move and have been in complete support of this decision despite leaving their friends and the comforts of home.  I credit our kid’s acceptance and support of this decision in large part to their desire to serve that was born at the Lighthouse.  They have always experienced serving God…with joy!  Thanks Lighthouse!”

“We are so thankful for the Lighthouse. We just got back from the Seaside retreat and we feel like we got a sneak peak of what heaven will be like. Everyone is so amazing and the children are so inspiring. We love you all!”

“My greatest fear in serving at Lighthouse was that I was going to be sad … seeing sick kids, not knowing how to act or what to say or that I would just cry. The retreat was completely different than what I expected.”
– Trish, retreat volunteer

“At the end of the retreat, I felt like I got as much out of the retreat as the families did … they were such a blessing to me. I’m really glad I made the decision to serve. It was one of the most fulfilling things I’ve ever done.”
– Steve, retreat volunteer

“What an amazing opportunity to serve together as a family. Given a choice of camps to attend the next summer, our son asked, “Please can we go back to Lighthouse?” It doesn’t get any better than that.”
– Julie, retreat volunteer
