Retreat 4, June 5 - 10, 2006

Our fourth retreat of the year saw thirteen families and a host of volunteers enjoy a fantastic week at Rosemary Beach. The only thing better than the delightful weather was the warm bonds of friendship that were forged between all who were privileged to participate in the retreat.

Nine of our Retreat Families were from Georgia, two from Tennessee, one from Michigan and one from Illinois. Volunteers also came from far and wide representing the states of Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and Indiana. We had a good mix of retreat veterans and first timers in the volunteer ranks and also had four Retreat Families who were making return trips to the Lighthouse.

We kicked things off with Hamburgers, Hot Dogs and Watermelon from the Summer Kitchen, right in the Rosemary village. Thanks to James Dylan for reserving the entire restaurant for our enjoyment. Other highlights of the week included Beach Olympics (how did all of those Team Flags turn red?) Mom’s day at the Spa (thanks to Twist for the haircuts), the Luau provided by Moe’s and Mike Gleason’s concert on the lawn at Seacrest.

Undoubtedly the biggest highlight of them all was our Friday night Talent Show on the Green. All were treated to a variety of talents from singing, karate kicks, break dancing, magic acts, Old McDonald, colors, baseball skills, a Lion Hunt, an interesting look at a girls date night, and the Bergen boys Kicking Cancers Butt routine. Of course there was also Clays rendition of the Sloppy Joe song for our lovely Lunch Ladies; Pat and Sally.

When we closed with the slide show and our see-ya-laters on Saturday morning, there weren’t many dry eyes in the house. Thanks again to the Retreat Families who shared their precious children with us, and to the volunteers who poured out their hearts into this week to make it a special time for all of us.
